State

This was the state of matters, on the afternoon of, what I may be excused for calling, that eventful and important Friday. I can make no claim therefore to have known, at that time, how matters stood; or to have any remembrance, founded on the evidence of my own senses, of what follows.

'The State We're In' – a well-known book written in the early '90s as trenchant criticism of the mess the Tories had made of Britain. 'The State We're Still In' – Oh Lord, the title of a book that should be written now as trenchant criticism of the continuing mess that (you've guessed it)the longed for Labour govt.........

Connecticut has an »official« nickname of the Constitution State. It's also known as the Nutmeg State.

Kansas has two nicknames: the Sunflower State and the Jayhawk State.

The state I'm in
is a terrible sin
I'm wasting my life away

I'm just sitting here
with a bottle of beer
surfing the internet all day

Somewhere I read that Montana is known as The Treasure State. Heh? I have to say that, as we drove across the endless corn fields for hour after hour and were happy to see an odd coyote or distant farmer on a tractor to break the monotony, I thought the state's other name of Big Sky Country was far more appropriate.

Washington is called the Evergreen State.

Arkansas, while offically refered to a the »Natural State« by tourist board and Chamber of Commerce types, is often called the »Altered State« by the hippies

Rhode Island is called The Ocean State.

Arkansas is known as »The Natural State«.

Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State.
