quotschgen

»Quotschgen« is a yiddish expression which means something like »dangerous animal« or »monster from below«.
The quotschgen is an invisible green monster living in the sewer system which was first described in 1857 by the German (and jewish) scientist Schlomiel Zierchersauckel, who spotted it in a public toilet in the ghetto of Buchholz (Nordheide) and was named after the yiddish expression for an ancient underworld demon in which the hebrews had believed before they had become monotheistic. Originally it was spelled »Q'ots'ghin«, »ghin« having the same root as »gin« or »genie«.
