Tombstone – a marker, usually of stone and with an inscription of the name and the dates of birth and of death, placed on a grave; headstone.

Often a sentiment is added to the inscription, e.g., »In Loving Memory of« [followed by the name of the deceased], or »Beloved Wife and Mother«, »Cherished Aunt«, »Beloved Son«, etc.

An epitaph may also be inscribed on the tombstone.
