Ampelmaenchen are creatures in stories for German children. There is a green and a red one. They live inside traffic lights (?) and are resonsible for changing the lights.
You may not know it, but you have in fact seen many, many Ampelmännchen. You may see them all the time and not know it when you do. They don't always look the same, but Ampelmännchen they are, and they're always out, rain or shine. Type »Ampelmännchen« into a search engine and see!
I'm bored with the Ampelmännchen. What Berlin needs is the international standard traffic light, dragging eastern road crossings kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
